1 Year of Development (Devlog 15)
Hello, everyone.
It has been exactly one year since development began on Genesis 1K, and we've made incredible progress throughout 2024. We're thrilled to share that we're now looking at a mid-2025 release, and we couldn't have come this far without your continued support and excitement. As we celebrate this milestone, let's take a look back at everything we've achieved in this first year of development.
Early Development & Initial Vision (December 2023 - January 2024): Genesis 1K started as a spiritual sequel to our beloved Alien Turrets 9, with a vision to create a vast universe of 1000 planets for players to explore. By the end of December, we had around 200 planets built and focused on expanding the core features. A core goal emerged early on: new planets would be added weekly post-launch, with input from the community helping shape this evolving galaxy.
In those first few days, we posted frequent devlogs, announcing the game's prototype image on Itch.io, expanding the game description, and sharing our rough release target of early-mid 2024 (later adjusted). By New Year's Day, we outlined our ambitious plans for the year, introducing the idea of community-driven creation—allowing players to craft their own planets, creatures, and stories.
Feature Announcements & Expanding the Game (March - June 2024): March marked the introduction of the Intergalactic Trade Hub, creating a dynamic player-driven marketplace for resources and artifacts. This was a pivotal moment, expanding the game's interactive potential beyond exploration.
By June, we introduced Cosmic Terraforming, allowing players to reshape planetary environments and develop ecosystems. This feature became a cornerstone of Genesis 1K, letting players leave their mark on the universe. Galactic Alliances were also completed, empowering players to form factions and collaborate on galactic-scale projects.
Additionally, by mid-year, we hit a major milestone: over 500 planets had been completed, and we developed two DLC expansions with one more in progress.
Mid-Year Challenges & Adjustments (May - September 2024): While the first half of the year was filled with progress, by May, we decided to slow down development temporarily to focus on our new game, Turret Legends. This shift allowed us to recharge creatively but also led to our first major delay, pushing the game's expected release to late 2025.
However, development continued steadily, and by September, we realized the end-of-2025 estimate might not hold. We tentatively moved the release window forward to mid-2025, fueled by strong momentum and successful feature implementation.
Final Stretch of 2024 (November - December 2024): In November, we teased new features, culminating in the Alien Civilizations announcement in December. This feature lets players establish, grow, and manage their own alien civilizations, blending city-building elements with exploration. We also officially rebranded the game from Alien Turrets 1000 to Genesis 1K, reflecting its evolution beyond the Alien Turrets series.
Looking at the progress we've made, we're incredibly proud of how far Genesis 1K has come. This year was filled with new ideas, adjustments, and significant milestones. We still have a lot to do, but the journey so far has been nothing short of amazing.
What's Next: As we move into 2025, our focus is on finalizing the remaining planets, completing the third DLC, and polishing the features we've already announced. Community involvement will remain at the heart of development, and we can't wait to see you guys enjoy Genesis 1K, when it releases.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Here's to another exciting year of development, and we can't wait to share more with you as we inch closer and closer to release.
